Festival Dates & Hours

• Friday, May 11: set up Noon to 8 PM

• Saturday, May 12: 10 AM to 6 PM       Sunday, May 13: 10 AM to 5 PM

Art in the Arbor is a Mother’s Day tradition in Louisville since 1968, creating a magical atmosphere on the beautiful 8-acre wooded grounds at 4936 Brownsboro Road.  The festival has a broad array of attractions besides the quality visual art — live music, Wine Garden, live art demonstrations, a Kentucky Proud food court, Plant & Pussy Willow Market, the best quality children’s crafts in the area, “green” educational exhibits, a cake wheel, and a huge charity raffle.  Also, Metro Animal Services will introduce several lovable animals ready for adoption.

All the art is original and diverse, with over 100 artists selected by a professional jury, across many media — jewelry, fired glass, pottery, stained glass, garden & metal sculpture, wearable art, yard art, paintings, and more.  No manufactured items or imports  are allowed.

Bluegrass, pop, world, jazz, and other music styles create a warm, eclectic, family-friendly vibe.  Saturday afternoon music is by Keltricity (celtic world) and singer/ songwriter Andrea Davidson (Americana and other genres).  Sunday stars the Dulcimer Society, piano stylings by Rich Machin, followed by John Gage of “Kentucky Homefront” with traditional music.  The Potluck Ramblers finish the Sunday show with fun and rousing bluegrass.

Live art demonstrations will delight all — blacksmithing on a real forge, intricate glass jewelry fusion, basket making, woodworking, and henna body painting. The Little Loom House will also demonstrate spinning and weaving.  Demos are free to observe, although personalized commission items have associated fees.

Enjoy the Wine Garden and Kentucky Proud Food Court in the seating near the music stage, which is on the front porch of a lovingly preserved 19th-century farmhouse. Wholly Smokers BBQ and Middle Eastern fare from the Burning Bush Grille provide plenty of tempting variety.  Elk Creek Wines will vend tastings, or pour by the glass or bottle. Gelato Gilberto, and Cherry Sue Gourmet are very popular, and ensure that Mom and the whole family can enjoy a delightful treat.  Maui Wowi will serve gourmet Hawaiian coffee and smoothies. The “Wheel of Fortune” is a fun way to spin for a cake, restaurant gift certificate, or other prize.

The “green” dimension is evident at the popular Plant & Pussy Willow Market, with Master Gardener on-site.  Hundreds of pussy willows are sold annually—both cuttings to plant, and dried (up to 6 feet long!) for arrangements.  Mature perennials, hanging baskets and many annuals are sold, and an exhibit on Kentuckiana native versus invasive plants is featured.

Proceeds from the 100+-art item charity raffle will benefit the Volunteers of America Family Emergency Shelter this year.  Citizens Union Bank, Meijer grocery stores, Fenley Real Estate and NELBA (the Northeast Louisville Business Association) generously sponsor the festival.  Hours are: Saturday, May 12 — 10am to 6pm, and Sunday, May 13 — 10am to 5pm.  FREE Admission.  Handicap Accessible.  Easy drop off and pick up of people and purchases, but there is no on-site parking.  The festival is located across from Holiday Manor shopping center, and behind Rodes.  Free parking only 2 blocks away, with shuttle each 10 minutes from the Browenton Building, (1 block from I-264 at corner of Brownsboro Road/ Hgwy 22 and Warrington Way), and from Wilder Elementary School, 1913 Herr Lane.  For more information call 502.425.6943 or visit www.artinthearbor.org.
