Our Minister • Rev. Elwood Sturtevant (and Roxanne)
Our minister, the Rev. Elwood R. Sturtevant, began his ministry at TJ in September, 1987. A graduate of Stanford University and Stanford Law School, Elwood left the practice of law in 1983 to attend Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, where he received his M. Div. Degree in 1987. He is a past president of the Ohio Valley UU District, and of the OVUUD UU Ministers Association Chapter. He has also served on the UUA’s Youth Programs Review Task Force and UUA Youth Council, and chaired the Midwest UU Conference and the Heartland District Nominating Committee. He was a founding member of Religious Leaders for Fairness, the (Louisville) Metropolitan Housing Coalition and Interfaith Paths to Peace, and has served as Board Chair of Eastern Area Community Ministries, on the board of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, and as a member of the Healing Possible Quorum. While at TJ, he has mentored several UU ministers including the Rev. Jafarzadeh who currently serves St. John’s Unitarian Church in Cincinnati. Elwood is married to Roxanne Sturtevant; they have two adult children, both of whom were active in the RE program at TJ when they were younger.
